The opening ceremony was held at the Gilgit City Football Ground and was attended by civil and military officials, local community leaders, students, and football enthusiasts. Teams from various districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Hunza, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, Astore, and Ghanche, are participating in the tournament. Each team is composed of under-23 players selected through local-level trials and training sessions.

During the ceremony, the importance of sports in youth development and community building was highlighted. Organizers emphasized that football, as the most widely played sport in the region, provides a positive outlet for energy and talent while also promoting discipline, teamwork, and unity among youth from diverse backgrounds.

The first match of the tournament featured Gilgit District versus Ghizer, which ended in an exciting draw, setting the tone for a highly competitive championship. Matches are scheduled to continue throughout the week, with the final to be held in early February.

In addition to football matches, the event includes halftime performances by school bands, traditional music groups, and local dance troupes to showcase the cultural richness of Gilgit-Baltistan. Families and students have shown strong attendance, turning the event into a celebration of youth, culture, and community pride.

The FCNA Gilgit-Baltistan Football Championship is part of broader efforts by both civilian and military institutions to encourage youth involvement in constructive activities. It also aims to prepare talented players for participation in national-level tournaments and provide a platform for future stars of Pakistan’s football scene.

Local residents have welcomed the tournament and appreciated the opportunity for young athletes to shine. With increasing interest and positive response, this championship is expected to become an annual feature of the region’s sports calendar.
