Seven Ismaili Volunteers Lose Lives in Danyore Landslide While Restoring Flood-Damaged Water Channel

A devastating landslide in the Manogah Nallah area of Danyore, Gilgit, claimed the lives of seven Ismaili community volunteers and left six others injured on Monday morning. The volunteers were working on a self-help basis to repair a water supply channel that had been severely damaged by recent floods.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the victims were buried under debris while clearing the channel to restore water flow to local communities. The deceased were identified as Piyar Ali, Naik Alam, Adam Ali, Azharuddin, Afaq, Azhar, and Dildar Hussain. The injured included Anwar, Aziz Aman, and two others who sustained minor injuries.

An official at the Aga Khan Health Center in Gilgit confirmed that of the injured brought in from the site, two survived, while seven others were pronounced dead on arrival. Rescue teams, locals, and emergency responders worked tirelessly in the early hours to retrieve the victims from the rubble and transport the injured to medical facilities.

Funeral prayers for the seven volunteers were offered later in the day, attended by grieving families, community members, and local leaders. The incident has been described as a profound loss for the entire community, as the victims had been engaged in voluntary service for the welfare of their fellow residents.

Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, terming the loss of precious human lives a tragedy for the entire region. He directed the provincial home secretary, DG GBDMA, district administration, and Rescue 1122 to expedite rescue and relief operations.

The Chief Minister also instructed the provincial health secretary to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care. He assured that compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased in accordance with government policy and conveyed his condolences and solidarity with the bereaved families.

The water supply channels in Manogah Nallah had been damaged in recent heavy rainfall and flash floods, disrupting water access for nearby communities. The volunteers, driven by community spirit, had been working to restore the system when the landslide struck.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious in flood-affected areas as the risk of further landslides remains high.
