In a disturbing incident that has shaken the city, Qazi Nisar Ahmed, the prominent religious leader and head of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat Gilgit-Baltistan & Kohistan, was injured in a targeted gun attack on Tuesday near CPO Chowk in the Konodas area of Gilgit.
According to initial reports, unknown gunmen opened fire on Qazi Nisar’s vehicle while he was traveling with his security detail. He reportedly sustained a bullet wound to his arm, while two police officers assigned to his security were also injured during the attack. All injured individuals were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Soon after the incident, markets across Gilgit began shutting down, and a large number of people, including supporters and concerned citizens, gathered outside the hospital, demanding updates on Qazi Nisar’s condition. His injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening, though there has been no official medical bulletin released so far.
Images and videos circulating on social media show the targeted vehicle with visible signs of gunfire and bloodstains, further intensifying public concern.
In response, the police and security forces cordoned off the entire area and have launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, and investigations remain ongoing.
Authorities have issued a statement urging the public to remain calm and to avoid spreading unverified information, especially on social media, which may cause panic or disrupt peace in the region. The administration has assured that all efforts are being made to ensure the safety of citizens and to bring the culprits to justice.
